Al has ridden horses his entire life and enjoys teaching others who want to learn how to ride.  As a teenager, he worked for two summers at a residential horsemanship camp as a counselor and riding instructor.  He has successfully competed in many events over many years and has some trophy belt buckles to show for it.  As a 4-H member and parent, he has participated in countless horse shows.  For practical horsemanship, he has over the years been on many cattle drives and brandings, as well as having trained a few horses.  Now that kids are grown, he has been concentrating on helping adults who have not had the opportunity to grow up with horses.  Adults seem to appreciate Al’s patient approach. When a student has gained the skills and confidence to safely get out of the arena, it is fun to go on a long ride in the beautiful country surrounding us.

Mr.and Mrs.!

The owner's wife is an accomplished equestrian who has owned her own horses since she was a girl. At the young age of 12, she took home 1st place in English Equitation in a local competition while studying English jumping from the famous, Colonel Nance who won the bronze in the 1960's Olympic Games. She enjoys providing children ages 7-14 a safe place to learn about a horse's care and how to achieve a good seat. She is a certified teacher with both the States of Texas and Colorado.  She taught over 500 children ages 7-14 for a total of 7 summers in Longmont, Co., and was lead, trail rider for a large, equestrian company/ranch who provided trail experience to corporate executives in FLower Mound , Texas.  Her horse, Apache, was featured as a trick horse with the Montgomery County Rodeos where she also competed in barrels and poles. She was appointed lead instructor in the horsemanship classes at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas in the 80's. She has led round-up rides for local 4-H clubs, as well as taught the horsemanship badge to Girl Scout Troops. She has broke and trained many horses for neighbors and people she's known, plus, has trained 4 trick horses which were used in National Rodeos (Houston Rodeo) and shows.  Her favorite memories are of the Mesquite, Huntsville State Prison, Tx., and Denver, Co. Rodeos.

We provide the horses, saddles and all tack, plus, a beautiful arena to learn in.  We charge 35.00 per hour for private lessons and 25.00 for a group of 2 or more. There are never more than 4 in a group lesson. Hours are 9-noon from July-September. We prefer, for safety reasons, that you are over 7 years old to take riding lessons--helmets are provided upon request!

Tacking up! Charlie learns how to bridle Romeo.  This is not the "giddy-up, get on, and ride away" type of lesson. We make sure each child knows how to care for and tack up his/her own horse. We prepare you for the day you may own one yourself!

Enjoying a ride on a beautiful, sunny, Colorado afternoon! As soon as you've accomplished a good seat and can control your horse comfortably, we allow you to ride at your own leisure in our large arena after each lesson. Al takes adults into the back country for more advanced rides.

Even the little cowboys learn quickly!  Remember, age 7 and older are welcome. Anyone under this age is normally too small to control such a large animal safely.

Come learn in a healthy, non-pushy atmosphere with experienced and caring instructors! Write to Western_riding@yahoo.com   We prefer an initial e-mail introduction before calling to reserve your summer lesson spot! Please tell us what you hope to achieve by taking lessons at our ranch. They fill up quickly, so don't delay!

                                               Giddy up!
